Christ Church, Cobble Hill

Christ Church was organized in 1835, and the church building was completed in 1841-42. It was founded on the wave of affluence and confident urban expansion following the opening of the Erie Canal, an economic transformation wrought in both New York City and Brooklyn in the 1830s.

PROJECT DETAILS

One volunteer is researching the parish’s earliest archives, compiling names and looking into online databases, while another volunteer is looking at the wider picture of the history of slavery within the history of race and Christianity.
